April is
National Poetry Month
April is
Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is
the month I was born
April is
all the pieces of me
I can’t leave behind.
April Showers bring May follows
This timing feels like a sign
An omen
a prophecy
more than just
a month that follows March
but comes before May.
A month known for giving herself away.
I am the cycle breaker
the one who falls
and hurts
and gets back up
the healing waters that bring new life
the flood that washes all away
so others never have to walk the path I labored for.
April?
There is a strength in the letters seen
written on paper or flashing on the screen.
Yet, she slips off your tongue so softly
like a secret spell winding her way around
till you can’t remember her
but you also never seem to forget
all the people and places that April holds
…and…
one of them is me.
( and all of me is April )
